JANUARY PRE-K NEWSLETTER
January was a busy and productive month for Pre-K. In Religion the children learned about “Three Kings Day” and the wonderful gift of “Our Five Senses” from God, which also correlated with our science unit. In our new “Health” unit we discussed taking care of our bodies, staying healthy, cleaning and flossing our teeth, regularly seeing the dentist, and getting plenty of exercise. In Language Arts and Reading Readiness they especially liked listening to the stories of The Mitten and Mouse Paint. We also are working on phonological awareness, rhyming, and writing in our journals. In Math we are working with number recognition (6 & 7), counting, one to one correspondence, graphing, sorting, patterning, shapes, measurement, and the concept of more or less. We talked about tolerances and difference in people in Social Studies and learned about Martin Luther King. The class also enjoys the stories and activities in the “Weekly Reader” magazine which greatly enhances our curriculum. In music we sang songs about winter and in Art we learned about the primary and secondary colors. Finally, we ended this month by celebrating “Catholic School Week” with many special activities. It was another great month for Pre-K.
