Grade Three: Ms Gill

Get ready! Get Set! Go!  The third grade has been working full speed ahead to become life long learners.  The children have been working very hard during this year of transition and are doing a great job in developing their skills to become independent workers.  It is also a very exciting year because the children are preparing for two very important Sacraments-First Reconciliation and First Communion.  As they prepare for these Sacraments they are making an outstanding effort to spread "The Good News" and exemplify a Christian attitude like that of Jesus.

The third graders are very excited about their new science books and learning how living things function with some really fun experiments in the near future.

The children have been working on their fluency in reading and have been demonstrating their comprehension by identifying main ideas, supporting details, and predicting outcomes.

Weekly spelling tests are always exciting because all the students are anxious to win "Teacher of the Day."

Their writing skills are improving as they learn about sentence development, structure and utilizing the parts of speech.  They have learned all their lowercase cursive letters, and are currently working on their uppercase letters...so by the end of February they will be expected to do daily work assignments in cursive.

Math is one of their favorite subjects!  The children are adding, subtracting and estimating large numbers and will soon be exploring multiplication. While out shopping don't hesitate to ask a third grader to estimate the cost of your purchase!

And last but not least, in Social Studies we have been talking about our country and the different types of communities in the United States. The children have taken a keen interest in our country's current events.  Don't be surprised if there is a future President of the United States in this classroom!  We look forward to the rest of our fun-filled journey through third grade.
