Art
Mrs. Cantore
The art classes have been very busy since school started. All the classes worked on art projects for our fund raiser. The students had fun drawing and designing beautiful pictures that could be reproduced on to different products. We also had a Family Art Night to create artwork. It was a big success. Everyone had a great time and asked if we could do something like this again.
I introduced the lower grades to the color wheel. Our Kindergarten made a wind sock color wheel. I read a story to the first grade about three mice and how they make the different colors. Then the students made their own mice out of paper and made the different colors of the color wheel.
Our fourth grade worked on the Knights of Columbus Christmas Tree Festival. This year’s theme was Nativities from Latin American. We received a certificate for Best Interpretation of the Three Kings. If you have time this holiday go visit the Knights of Columbus and look for our tree. The students did a great job!
The eighth graders are making civil war puppets, which will be ready for a show during Catholic Schools Week. Art is integrated throughout the curriculum as demonstrated by this art project.
The students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 will visit the Yale Art Museum sometime in the spring. We are curetnly in the process of planning this trip. The students will see first hand the artists’ works they have been learning about this year in art class.
The Art Club made great masks with plaster wrap. They also helped decorate gift bags for the Ladies Guild who use the bags to give gifts to homeless.
I am looking forward to teaching the children more exciting art ideas and styles.
